Common questions

If yours isn't here, message us at team@prescribernow.com.

Does finasteride really cause sexual side effects?+
In the published trials, sexual side effects occurred in roughly 2-4% of men and were typically reversible when the medication was stopped. A small subset of patients describe persistent symptoms (post-finasteride syndrome) — the data on this is still evolving. Your provider will discuss the trade-offs.
How long until I see results from finasteride or minoxidil?+
Initial response usually shows by 3-6 months. Full effect is typically 12 months. Some initial shedding in the first few weeks of minoxidil is normal and resolves.
Topical vs oral minoxidil?+
Topical (5%) is FDA-approved and well-studied but inconvenient. Low-dose oral minoxidil (0.625-2.5 mg daily) is being increasingly used off-label by dermatologists with strong results. Your provider will discuss whether oral makes sense for you.
Is tretinoin going to wreck my skin?+
Tretinoin causes 2-4 weeks of dryness and irritation in most patients before the skin adapts. Start every-other-night, pea-sized amount, strict daily sunscreen. After the adjustment period most people tolerate it well long-term.
Can spironolactone help my hormonal acne?+
For adult women with hormonal acne (chin/jaw pattern, flares with cycle), spironolactone often works better than antibiotics. Watch potassium; pregnancy contraindicated.
Refill my existing prescription?+
Yes — bring the name, dose, and prescribing doctor. We can often continue what's working, or adjust if it isn't.
