Common questions

Compounded vs branded — what's the difference?+
Branded GLP-1s (Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, Mounjaro) are the FDA-approved manufactured products. Compounded versions are mixed by a licensed 503A or 503B pharmacy to the same active ingredient strength. Compounded options are typically 70-90% cheaper but are not FDA-approved as finished products. Your provider will discuss the trade-offs.
How much weight should I expect to lose?+
GLP-1 results vary by patient. Published trials show 5-15% body-weight loss over 6-12 months with proper titration. Some patients lose faster; some plateau. The medication works best paired with protein-forward nutrition and resistance training.
What side effects should I expect?+
Nausea, constipation, and reduced appetite are most common during titration. Most patients see these subside within 2-4 weeks at each dose. Persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or signs of pancreatitis mean stop the med and contact your provider immediately.
Do I need labs first?+
For first-time weight-loss visits we ask about your medical history and current meds. If your history suggests labs would change the plan (history of pancreatitis, thyroid disease, kidney issues, diabetes), we may ask you to get basic labs before prescribing.
What if it's not right for me?+
If your provider declines, they'll explain why and tell you where to go next (PCP for labs, endocrinologist, etc.). We never push a prescription that isn't safe for your situation.
Will insurance cover it?+
Most insurance plans cover branded GLP-1s only for T2DM, not weight loss — and even there often require step therapy. Compounded options are cash-pay through our network compounder. Your provider will discuss both paths.
